Sixty-nine percent of Jordanians will take advantage of bread subsidies in accordance with the conditions that were put in place by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The government said earlier that those who want to be included in the bread subsidies must not own more than two cars, a real estate worth more than JOD 300,000, or an annual salary of more than JOD 12,000 for a family and 6,000 for individuals.

Yarub Qudah, the Minister of Trade and Industry, said that limiting the number of the beneficiaries of bread subsidies means individuals will be able to earn more money. The comments were made while discussing the General Budget Law with the Parliamentary Finance Committee.

With less beneficiaries of the subsidies, due to the new conditions put in place, those receiving subsidies will now be afforded JOD 32.5 per individual a year, as opposed to JOD 25.

The minister considered that those who earn more than JOD 2,000 per month will not be affected by paying JOD 3 a month on bread.

Jordanian citizens will be able to receive the subsidy in cash through their bank accounts each year, while those who do not own bank accounts will be able to collect them through any bank in the Kingdom.
