Sisi to meet Hariri on Tuesday evening

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al Sisi will meet Saad al Hariri, who resigned as Lebanon’s Prime Minister on 4 November, on Tuesday evening, according to a statement from the presidency on Monday.

The meeting between Sisi and Hariri will address the “latest developments in the region and developments of the Lebanon situation,” the presidency said.

Hariri has been in Paris since Saturday, where he met French President Emmanuel Macron.

He has said that he will return to Lebanon by Wednesday for the country’s Independence Day celerations.

Hariri’s resignation triggered a political crisis in Lebanon and pushed the country to the fore of the regional conflict between rivals Saudi Arabia and Iran.

In his resignation speech broadcast from Riyadh, Hariri accused Iran and its Shi’a allies in Lebanon Hezbollah of plotting to assassinate him.

Lebanese President Michel Aoun has said that he will not accept Hariri’s resignation until the form prime minister returns home to deliver it in person.
