Ain Al-Helweh Palestinian refugee camp is in a state of chaos after a Palestinian official was shot dead on Sunday.

“A masked individual opened fire at Palestinian Liberation Front member Mahmoud Qassem Hjeir at the vegetable market’s intersection in the Ain Al-Helweh camp,” the Lebanese National News Agency reported.

“Hjeir died immediately after receiving a gunshot to the head,” the agency added.

Gunshots were heard by dozens of people in the camp, which led many shop owners to close their doors, fearing further escalation of the situation.
