The Palestinian National Authority is running the borders with Egypt for the first time since 2007.

Egyptian Authorities opened on Saturday the Rafah terminal between Egypt and Gaza with the Palestinian Authority running Palestinian side for first time since Hamas took over the coastal enclave in 2007, according to Maan News Agency.

Egypt announced earlier it will open the border for three consecutive days for students and patients, until the border opens for good as per the 2005 agreement which states that both the Palestinian Authority and European observers will be in charge of the border.

Hundreds of PA security personnel were deployed inside the border halls to receive travellers, and in preperation for the opening of the border.

The two rival parties reached an Egyptian-brokered agreement earlier last month ending a decade-long split between the two governments in Gaza and the West bank.
