The Israeli army has ordered some 300 Palestinian families to remove their property from land in the Northern Jordan Valley, a move that has been interpreted as an eviction and demolition notice, Haartez reported on Sunday.
This is the first time that Palestinians have been the recipients of an eviction order designed to enable to evacuation of unauthorised Israeli settlement outposts.
The order was not handed directly to any of the affected Palestinian families but was instead posted on the road leading to the community, which has lived in the area for decades.
Some 300 Palestinians living in herding communities will be affected, according to the map accompanying the notice.
A lawyer for the families has issued an objection to the military order, based on the army’s failure to notify the residents directly.
