Islamic Hamas government has handed on Friday over control of Gaza border crossings with both Egypt and Israel to the Palestinian Authority as practical step for the Egyptian-brokered reconciliation agreement between the two rival parties.

The step aims to end the blockade Israel and Egypt are imposing on two million Palestinians living in Gaza since Hamas took over the coastal enclave in 2007, making it the biggest open-air prison in the world.

The two parties went through a street battle after Hamas won Parliamentary election in 2006, the battles ended up with Hamas taking over Gaza, and ousting pro-Abbas forces to the West Bank.

Head of the Palestinian public commission of border crossings Hussien Sheikh said on Tuesday that the Palestinian government is "ready to take over the Gaza strip borders completely and practically on Wedensday," which will lead to open the Rafah border within two weeks.
