Whoever said there were no jobs in Amman clearly did not hear about the Greater Amman Municipality’s (GAM) plan to create 600 new jobs at its establishment in 2018.

A source told Al Ghad newspaper that the new vacancies will be available to engineers, surveyors, draftsmen and Category 5 drivers, in addition to other job openings.

The source, who asked to remain anonymous, said that the new positions will not affect workers’ lump sum payments.

It was not long ago that GAM announced its desperate need for new engineers and vets.

Last week, the Minister of Labour, Ali Al Ghazzawi, said that the unemployment rate has reached 18%.

As for Irbid, during a visit to the Chamber of Commerce in the northern city last week, Ghazzawi said that all sectors must work on making the government’s recent National Employment Program a success.

The program was launched in collaboration with Irbid’s Chamber of Commerce.

The program has received one million JOD ($1.4 million) in funds from the government, and it focuses on providing vocational training for Jordanian citizens, so that they are able to gain the skills needed to offer them the jobs that are usually filled by expats.
