The National Society For Consumer Protection (NSCP) received numerous complaints from concerned citizens regarding a number of supermarkets and independent vendors, who have been selling rotten potatoes in Jordan.

Mohammad Obeidat, the Director of NSCP, said that they have followed up with the complaints and caught the retailers who were selling the rotten vegetable.

Obeidat called on regulators to test the potatoes that have already gone out into the market, and to destroy them should they be found to be non-consumable.

He also urged retailers to report on any rotten potatoes that might have been delivered to their stores, and to disclose their suppliers’ details to the NSCP.

Obeidat has warned citizens from buying imported potatoes, especially from vendors who sell their goods on mobile food trucks.
