A Palestinian teenager was shot and injured by Israeli naval forces off the coast of the northern Gaza Strip on Thursday evening, according to Maan news.

The 19-year-old was sailing in the coast of Beit Lahiya when fire was opened on his boat, witnesses said.

Medical sources reported that the teen, whose identity remains unknown, was shot in the leg.

Fishermen are allowed to fish within 20 nautical miles from the beach, according to the Oslo Accords which were signed by the Palestinian Authority and Israel in 1993.

However, Israel often limits the fishing zone to six nautical miles, and has killed in the past couple of years several fishermen while they were at work.
