Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) staffs shut down 13 butcher shops in Juewida in association with the Public Service Directorate (PSD) today.

The JFDA said that many of the now-closed butcher shops were committing health violations, like hanging their wares on the street in front of the shop, which leaves the meat at risk of being infected, in addition to the lack of any seals which indicate that the meat was slaughtered in licensed places.

Unlicensed meat could also be from foreign sheep that some butcher shops market and sell as local meat.

20 slaughtered animals were seized and destroyed for being unsuitable for human consumption.
