Will Artificial Intelligence (AI) be delivering your daily dose of news stories as soon as 2018?

A recent study by American research centre, the Future Today Institute, discussed the possibility of AI taking over journalists’ jobs sooner than we think.

Will the next Roya News English story to land on your screen be written by a machine?

It’s possible.

AI can write stories, including analytical pieces, using the information provided to them by humans.

However, despite being able to produce thousands of stories in a short amount of time, human journalists will still be needed to make the stories sound less mundane... or will they?

Google’s Digital News Initiative (DNI) is a fund that promotes innovation in digital journalism.

They are currently sponsoring the RADAR project, which, in 2018, will create a service that will pump out up to 30,000 stories a month using natural language generation (NLG) AI programs.

The Future Today Institute encouraged journalists and news agencies to collaborate with tech companies to test AI technologies.
