Lebanese group Hezbollah has warned Saturday that Iraqi Kurdish independence would lead to “internal wars” and is a step towards partition of the Middle East.
Head of the Iran-backed group, Hassan Nasrallah, expressed his fear of Kurdish independence, which he considers be a threat to the whole region, not just Iraq.
"It will open the door to partition, partition, partition," Nasrallah said.
He described the referendum as a part of a US-Israeli plan to carve up the region.
The United States along with major European states, Turkey, Iran and Syria, where Kurdish groups established autonomous regions, all opposed the referendum.
Hezbollah, a political and military movement, is currently battling against ISIS in Syria.
"Daesh is at its end. It is a matter of time in Iraq and Syria," Nasrallah said, using an Arabic acronym for Islamic State, Middle East Eye reported.
