At least 28 civilians were killed in overnight strikes on the town of Armanaz, in Idlib province, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Four children were among the dead on Saturday.

It was not immediately known if the strikes were carried out by the Syrian government or by its ally, Russia.

The Britain-based watchdog had earlier reported 12 dead in the strikes on the town in Harem district, around 20 kilometres northwest of the provincial capital Idlib, according to The National.

Medical charity Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said on Friday that the bombing raids forced hospitals in the province to close and stop their work.
