A top prosecutor in Israel said he is considering charging Sara Netanyahu with fraud, with the final decision pending a pre-trial hearing for the Israeli Prime Minister's wife.

According to the Ministry of Justice, Mrs Netanyahu is suspected of misusing 359,000 shekels ($100,000) of state funds for catering purposes.  The Prime Minister said claims against his wife were 'ridiculous'.

The strongest indication to whether Sara Netanyah will be charged comes from Avichai Mandelblit's announcement, following a long-running investigation which has been the subject of intense speculation by Israeli media.

Prosecutors state Sara Netanyahu and Ezra Seidoff, a senior official, claimed costs for food prepared externally and for hiring private chefs, while covering up their residence's employment of a cook. State funding for both is not allowed, which the two have been using to pay between September 2010 and March 2013.

"In this way, hundreds of meals from restaurants and chefs were fraudulently received in the order of 359,000 shekels," a statement from the attorney general's office said.

"Because of that the attorney general is considering to indict Mrs Netanyahu in offences of fraudulently receiving property under grave circumstances, fraud and breach of trust."

Sara and Benjamin Netanyahu oppose the allegations.
