Three Jordanian universities enter Times higher education world ranking

The Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), the University of Jordan (UJ) and the Hashemite University were listed in in the Times Higher Education World University Ranking of 2016-2017. 

The list includes institutions of higher learning from 79 countries, selecting an elite 5% of the world's universities. The rankings are set as follows:

  • Jordan University of Science and Technology:

401 out fo 500 worldwide, up from 601 last year, and 119th in BRICS and Emerging Economies Rankings

  • University of Jordan:

201 out of 250 in BRICS and Emerging Economies Rankings, down from 179

  • Hashemite University: 

Entered BRICS and Emerging Economies Rankings this year at 251 out of 300

In an interview with The Jordan Times, Higher Education Minister Adel Tweisi congradulated improvement of university rankings, and internal development efforts. 

Tweisi praised “the cumulative effort made by everyone — and especially the faculty members — in the three universities over the last years to realise such an achievement”.

According to the University Rankings website, JUST particularly displays a “strong, multi-disciplinary educational system and broad diversity of students”. 20% of its student body is composed of international students from 48 countries. 

Hashemite University has positioned itself as the third best university in Jordan, with an expansion of faculty departments from 4 to 18. 

UJ finally, is accredited as both the largest and oldest university in the Kingdom. JU's hospital is affiliated with the first JCI Diseases Specific Certificate-accredited Cancer Centre outside of the United States: the King Hussein Cancer Centre.
