A nurse at Al Karak Hospital was assaulted on Tuesday night, after which the hospital decided to shut down in protest of the attack on their staff member.

The attackers were accompanying a patient at the hospital. They interfered with the nurse’s work, who was treating a patient whom the accompaniers aren’t related to.

The nurse was hospitalized and later arrested, which urged the Nurses Council to ask Al Karak Hospital staff to go on strike immediately until the nurse has been set free, according to Mohammed Hatamleh, President of the Nurses Council.

Hatamleh said that the Council will continue to go on strike every time a nurse is apprehended after being assaulted on the job.

“The government is neglecting these kinds of cases,” he added.

Seventy-three cases of assaults against doctors or medical staff have taken place since the beginning of this year.
