Mohammad al-Momani, Minister of State for Media Affairs stated that information and figures being circulated on ammendments to Income Tax law are just one proposal out of several being studied the Ministry of Finance.

He stressed that this proposal and any other proposals, along with others, have not yet been discussed by the Council of Ministers or the Economic Development Committee, adding that proposals will be presented to an Economic committee headed by the Prime Minister.

Proposals will be discussed by relevant committees and thoroughly examined before pursuing later stages in the legislative process.

The proposed ammendment is to Tax Law no.34 of 2014, which came into effect at the beginning of 2015, in the framework of economic reforms taken by the government.

In a press statement, Momani said that any discussion on amendments to the law should aim to strengthen the protection of the middle class in society, and take into account their living conditions.

The media had circulated a proposal to amend the income tax law, without mentioning that this proposal is one of the scenarios put forward by the Ministry of Finance to embark on a reform of the tax system.
