The Director of a Hebron radio station has been reportedly detained by Palestinian authorities on Sunday.

The detention of Ayman Qawasmeh comes days after Israeli forces raided the offices of the Manbar Al-Hurriya radio station and al-Nawras TV and ordered them to be shut down for the next six months.

Palestinian security forces arrested Qawasmeh after he called on Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah to resign in the wake of the radio station’s closure on Thursday, according to Maan news.

Maan news added that an Israeli army spokesperson has said that the closure was part of the army’s ongoing efforts against incitement in the occupied West Bank. She said that the station broadcasts content that encourages “acts of terror.”

Qawasmeh told Maan news that he was not surprised by the occupation’s policy, especially that it is not the first time the radio station has been shuttered by Israeli forces.

Israeli authorities have been tightening the work of Palestinian media in recent months.

This Israeli policy includes the imprisonment of journalists, activists, poets and novelists, as well as citizens who try to express their opinions over social media.
