Official Spokesperson for the Government Mohammad Al Momani condemned the visit of two members of the Knesset today to Al Aqsa amidst a heavy Israeli security presence.

Momani described the Israeli government’s decision to lift the ban of MKs from visiting the Mosque as “irresponsible, and likely to increase tension in the Jerusalem.”

He said that the Jordanian government was hoping to see advances in the Palestinian-Israeli peace process based on the two-state solution, and that Israel’s decision was reprehensible.

Momani asked Israel to take the necessary procedures to stop radical settlers from antagonizing Palestinians in Al Aqsa, and to bar MKs and Israeli ministers from entering the compound again.

Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu issued a decision allowing members of the Knesset to enter Al Aqsa this past June, after barring their entrance for a year-and-a-half in order to avoid conflict with Palestinians.
