Jordan’s King Abdullah met with U.S. Secretary of Defense James Mattis on Monday, to discuss the strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States,Petra news agency has reported.

The meeting also dealt with military and defense cooperation between the two countries, as well as the support provided by the United States to Jordan in this field. Additionally, the two discussed regional issues including the Syrian crisis, developments in Iraq and the ongoing battle against the so-called Islamic State.

The King and the US defense secretary also reviewed the social and economic impact of the Syrian refugee crisis on Jordan, alongside various security challenges the Kingdom is facing. Within this regard, the US defense secretary affirmed the US administration's support to Jordan, as well as its willingness to increase this support to enable the Kingdom to address challenges facing it.
