The final votes in Jordan’s Decentralisation and Municipal elections have been counted.

Chairman of the Board of Commissioners for the Independent Election Commission, Dr. Kahlid al-Kalaldeh, announced the results during a press conference late on Wednesday night.

Kalaldeh said that, according to Jordanian Law, candidates have up to two weeks to appeal against the results in court. During this time, they are also entitled to a recount and access to voter lists.

While voting day did not go without a few bumps in the road, one of the elections’ most pleasant highlights was electing 27-year-old Hamza Tarawneh as Jordan’s youngest mayor, who won 3055 votes at his municipality in Karak.

The total voter turnout was at 31.7%, with 1.302 million voters taking to the polls on Tuesday.
