A polling station in Amman was closed after violence broke out, and police dispersed crowds with tear gas.

Polling station 80 in Al Ashrafiyeh, Amman, has since been reopened following the incident.

When questioned by journalists on the voting events, Khaled Kalaldeh of the Independent Electoral Commission expressed support for the actions of the police, saying “I don’t see the problem with using tear gas.”

This comes as Jordanians take to the polls to vote in the country’s first decentralised and municipal elections.
