The Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee reviewed the Al Aqsa Mosque crisis and the Israeli Embassy incident with the Ayman Al Safadi, minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs today.

The Committee said that recent events have been accelerating rapidly, which required the Ministry of Foreign affairs to keep Jordanians in the know about recent developments, in order to prevent the misguidance of public opinion.

The Minister, in turn, reviewed with the Committee the latest efforts the Kingdom has undertaken to defend the holy sites in Jerusalem.

He stressed that defending Jerusalem and its holy sites is a continuous process that both the King and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs follow up on daily.

Safadi said that Jordan’s stance regarding the Israeli Embassy incident, in which two Jordanians were killed by an Israeli security guard at the Israeli Embassy in Amman, remains unchanged, and that justice will prevail.

Jerusalem has been a topic of interest for Jordanians these past weeks, with marches and protests organized across the Kingdom in support of Palestinians, who had protested Israel’s application of dehumanizing security measures at the gates of Al Aqsa Mosque following the death of two police officers in a gunfight with three Palestinian assailants.

Last week, two Jordanians were killed by an Israeli security guard at the Israeli Embassy in Amman, after one of the Jordanians allegedly attacked the Israeli security guard.

The staff of the Embassy has since left Jordan, and Jordanians have been calling for the security guard to be tried for his actions.
