The Temple Movement in Jerusalem has called for raiding Al Aqsa Mosque compound on Tuesday to mark the anniversary of the destruction of the Temples of Jerusalem.

Thousands of Israelis gathered and prayed at the Western Wall on Monday night to observe the start of the Tisha B'av fasting day, which commemorates the destruction of the first and second Jewish temples.

Right-wing groups also gathered on Tisha B'av and led a mass march around the walls of the Old City. The streets were sealed off to Palestinians, whose freedom of movement was severely restricted.

Leader of the Temple Movement, Yehuda Glick, thanked Israel’s security forces during the march and told the protesters: “The battle is here.”

Tensions have been running high in Jerusalem since three Palestinian assailants killed two Israeli guards near Al Aqsa Mosque compound.

In retaliation, Israel closed Al Aqsa compound and installed metal detectors and CCTV cameras at its entrance gates.

After two weeks of bloody confrontations between Palestinians protesting the closure, Israel reopened the compound on Friday night.
