Despite no immediate end in sight for the war in Syria, construction industry representatives began a two-day trade exhibition in Amman on Monday to discuss possible business opportunities to rebuild the country once the conflict ends.

The 11th Jordan International Building, Construction and Engineering Industries Exhibition is running in parallel with the International Exhibition for the Reconstruction of Syria and Countries of Conflict, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Sunday.

Organised by the Jordan Construction Contractors Association in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Works and Housing and Marvellous Universal, the exhibition will draw companies specialised in all areas of construction, such as architecture, decoration, housing and electromechanical installations, Petra said.

Companies are expected from Turkey, India, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Italy, Palestine and Jordan, Petra said.

The two-day event will discuss the role of Arab and international governments and organisations in the reconstruction, infrastructure, transportation and alternative energy projects, as well as the economic, cultural and social reconstruction of war-torn countries, the news agency added.

In addition to drafting a plan for constructing technologically-advanced, green and smart buildings in countries affected by conflicts, participants will also cover the social development aspect of reconstruction projects for the refugees and displaced persons, Petra concluded.
