The Palestinian Authority (PA) has decided to continue its suspension of “security coordination” with Israeli occupation forces, according to a high-ranking Fatah official quoted by the Ma'an News Agency.

The heavily-criticised cooperation with occupation forces was frozen following mass protests against Israel's decision to close the Al Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem and install metal detectors, which have now been removed.

A member of the Fatah Central Committee, Jamal Muhsen, told Ma’an that all communication and cooperation with Israel would remain suspended "until peace negotiations resumed" with Israel.

According to a report published on Saturday in The Times of Israel, however, multiple Palestinian sources have claimed that the PA continues to targeting and arrest alleged “Hamas operatives” in the West Bank.

According to the report in the Israeli newspaper, Head of the PA’s preventive security, Ziyad Hab Al Rih, also confirmed the ongoing detention campaign against Hamas activists, saying that alleged Hamas operatives “were planning attacks in an effort to escalate tensions between Israel and Palestinians.”

A number of alleged Hamas members were arrested this week in Qalqilya, Tulkarem, Ramallah and at Hebron’s Polytechnic University, Al Rih reportedly said.

Meanwhile, the Israeli army has continued nightly detention campaigns targeting Palestinians in PA-controlled areas of the occupied West Bank, Ma'an reported.

At least 17 Palestinians were detained in predawn raids on Sunday, with Israeli occupation forces shooting and injuring two Palestinian teenagers during a raid in Jenin refugee camp, the news agency concluded.
