King Abdullah headed a National Policies Council meeting on Thursday at Al Husseineyah Palace upon his return to Jordan.

In the meeting which was attended by Crown Prince Hussein and Prince Faisal, the King said, “a member of the Israeli Embassy in Amman fired at two Jordanians, for whom we shall attain justice by devoting all of Jordan’s efforts and abilities to do so.”

He said, “the Israeli Prime Minister is obliged to commit to his responsibilities and to take the necessary legal actions which include putting the killer on trial to attain justice, instead of dealing with this crime as a political display with the intent of achieving personal political gains. This sort of antagonistic behavior is rejected on all fronts, and it infuriates all of us. It only serves to destabilize security and to feed extremism in the region, and that is unacceptable.”

His Majesty expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, and he stressed that Jordan will not back down on the rights of Jordanians.

King Abdullah said that Israel’s handling of the Embassy incident will have direct repercussions on Jordanian-Israeli ties.

He also referenced the death of Judge Raed Zeiter, a Jordanian judge who was shot dead by Israeli soldiers in 2014 on the King Hussein Bridge, along with other cases.
