Israeli police shot and seriusly injured a young Palestinian man in the East Jerusalem neighbourhood of Silwan, Monday evening, then raided the hospital in which he was being treated, according to WAFA.

Israeli occupation forces raided Makased hospital in East Jerusalem to arrest the injured Palestinian. According to hospital sources, a large force besieged the hospital since the morning with some police officers entering the wards and causing panic and disturbance among the patients.

This comes after Israeli troops stormed the area of Ein al-Luza and fired stun grenades and live fire, while young residents threw Molotov cocktails and fireworks in response.

According to Wafa, the injured Palestinian, 17-year-old Ala Abu Tayeh, was getting treatment at the ICU after being shot during confrontations, and was taken from his hospital bed by Israeli forces.

A hospital statement said police behavior at the hospital and its impact on patients “is a serious violation of international laws and conventions stated in the Geneva Conventions.”

Palestinian Minister of Health Jawad Awwad condemned the police action and called for immediate withdrawal of the Israeli forces from the hospital and its surroundings.

Tensions have been high in East Jerusalem, following a deadly attack on Friday that left three assailants and two police officers -- all Palestinian citizens of Israel -- dead in and around the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the Old City.
