Needless to say, Egyptians were horrified by the sight.

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any more bizarre in the world, they did.

A social media user posted a video of a screen hanging on top of a historic mosque in Egypt, with a video of the risqué belly dancer Safinaz shimmying along to an Arabic tune.

Needless to say, Egyptians were horrified by the sight, taking to social media to voice their disappointment, shock and distress at the video.

One Facebook user wrote: “Belly dancers on top of mosques… what’s their Friday prayer sermon going to be about?.”

Another Facebooker said: “This is an intentional move to drive people’s attention away from worshipping and towards having fun.”

The mosque with the unspeakable "makeover" is the Qaitbay Mosque, which was built by Sultan Al-Ashraf Qaytbay in Cairo’s Northern Cemetery in 1474.

Here, see for yourselves!
