Orthodox Association condemns sale of church lands

The Orthodox Assocication in Amman condemned the sale of church lands to Israeli investors in a press conference on Wednesday.

Basim Farraj, the head of the Association, said that the lands being transferred to the Israelis are mortmain property.

Member of the parliament Khalid Ramadan said that the Jordanian Parliament has signed a memorandum of rejection of the transactions, stressing the importance of preventing them.

112 out of 114 MPs signed the memorandum.

Other Parliamentarians questioned the legitimacy of the sales, and criticized media outlets for justifying them.

The Orthodox Church was revealed to have sold hundreds of acres of Palestinian land to Israel last month, and has been criticized by Palestinians and Jordanians alike.
