Pakistani police reported on Wednesday that a man opened fire on his sister and her daughter in Lahore. Both died in what is being called an “honour killing.”

Chief of police Abed Maamoun elaborated on the story, stating that the man’s sister had angered him by remarrying for the 4th time. He killed her when she went to his house to pick up her daughter.

Maamun added that the assailant, Mohammed Shahzad, worried that his sister would be a bad influence on her daughter. Shahzad is currently at large, evading arrest.

Pakistan records nearly one thousand deaths of women reported to have broken societal code of traditional conduct regarding love, marriage, and general behaviour.
