A hospital patient set fire to his room at Al Bashir Hospital in Amman.

The man had reportedly started the small fire to draw staff’s attention, after claiming that “he wasn’t receiving enough medical attention.”

In a statement made by the hospital’s general manager, Dr. Ammar Al Sharfa, he noted that “the media has extremely exaggerated the incident.”

The doctor went on to explain that his patient was admitted to the Department of Internal Medicine on June 6, after needing urgent medical care.

However, after receiving the necessary medical treatment and fully recovering by June 8, the patient refused to be discharged from the hospital. His excuse? He has no friends or relatives to take care of him or provide shelter for him.

The hospital tried time and again to get in touch with the patient’s next of kin, but to no avail.
