The election campaigning kicked off on Monday morning for candidates for the municipal and local elections, and will continue until one day before polling day on August 15, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Various regulations govern the conduct of candidates during the campaign, with strict rules about campaign funding and the use of campaign material and advertisements.

Candidates should not use the official logo of the state, images of the Royal family or Royal symbols, whether in campaign events, meetings, advertisements or election bulletins, Petra reported.

Donations or material from foreign countries or governments, official and civil organisations, foreign companies or foreign nationals, are also prohibited for candidates, whether in cash or in any form of support, the news agency added.

The Independent Electoral Commission previously set a JD30,000 spending limit for candidates campaigning in the governorate elections in Amman, Zarqa and Irbid, and a JD20,000 limit for the other governorates, as well as other spending limits for the local elections, Petra noted.
