The road where the pilgrimage bus accident occurred on the first day of Eid is a tourist road not specified for Haj and Ummra buses, said the Minister of labour, Sami Halseh.

Halseh said that an investigation today showed that the accident took place after the bus lost control after travelling at high speed, ploughing through metal barriers designed to prevent cars from going over the road’s slope.

The investigation reportedly revealed that the cause of the accident was due to the negligence of the driver alongside the condition of the bus, which was 12-years-old and not suitable for use in transporting pilgrims for such long distances.

Halseh stressed the importance of monitoring and evaluating all buses and companies that handle Haj and Umra trips, particularly considering the long driving period for transporting pilgrims.
