A 20-meter-long whale was found dead three miles from the Port of Fujairah on Saturday, reported Emirati newspaper Alkhaleej.

The 30-tonne creature was pulled to land using special tools, while the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and the Fujairah Municipality took the necessary steps to allocate a suitable burying location for the dead whale.

According to the same source, special measures were taken to ensure that the marine mammal’s skeleton would be preserved in order to be used for scientific research, or to be displayed in a museum.

This isn’t the first time a whale was found washed ashore an Emirati beach.

In 2016, a 15-meter-long whale washed up on Kalba beach, after concluding that it had died after colliding with a large ship.
