‘Israeli’ academic removed from global conference in Lisbon after protests
An ‘Israeli’ public health professor and a military reservist, Nadav Davidovitch, has been removed from a prominent global conference following a petition that accused him of "purposeful omission" regarding ‘Israel's’ actions in his academic work.
The campaign, spearheaded by student and faculty organizations from Lisbon, specifically cited his military affiliation and called for his removal from the 2nd World Congress on Migration, Ethnicity, Race & Health (GSMERH).
The petition, which invoked the principles of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, highlighted Professor Davidovitch’s role as a Lieutenant Colonel in the ‘Israeli’ military.
The organizers stated that Davidovitch's "academic work cannot be separated from his other affiliations" and demanded he be removed unless he issued a public statement acknowledging "illegal occupation and acts of genocide," and called for ‘Israel’ to end the occupation.
According to the petition's organizers, Davidovitch was "successfully removed" from the World Congress.
The campaign, which was supported by students and faculties from Nova University and ISCTE-University Institute of Lisbon, continues to demand his removal as Vice President of the GSMERH Board of Trustees.
