Hamas slams Palestinian Central Council meeting
Hamas strongly criticized the Palestinian Central Council meeting held Thursday, denouncing its decision to create the position of Deputy Head of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
The group said the meeting "fell short of achieving genuine national unity" amid the ongoing 'Israeli' assault on Gaza and escalating violence in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
In a statement, Hamas noted that major Palestinian factions boycotted the meeting in protest of what it described as "attempts to dominate and override the spirit of national partnership." The group argued that the outcome "does not serve the unity of the Palestinian front during this critical time."

Hamas also condemned what it called “blatant insults” made by President Mahmoud Abbas during the session, saying that “the current national moment requires rallying around resistance factions, not attacking or blaming them for the crimes of the occupation.”
The movement renewed its call to rebuild the PLO, activate its temporary leadership framework, and hold comprehensive elections as "the only path to restore national unity."
"The Palestinian people deserve unified leadership worthy of their sacrifices—not leadership that reproduces failure and submits to security coordination and foreign dictates," the statement concluded.
The Palestinian Central Council had earlier approved, by a sweeping majority, the creation of the Deputy Head position within the PLO Executive Committee—a role currently held by the President of the State of Palestine.
