Jay-Z, Sean "Diddy" Combs accused of raping 13-year-old girl in lawsuit
Shawn Carter, widely known as rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z, has been named in a refiled lawsuit accusing him and Sean "Diddy" Combs of raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000, NBC News reported.
The alleged incident reportedly occurred after an MTV Video Music Awards after-party.
The anonymous accuser, referred to in court documents as "Jane Doe," initially filed the lawsuit against Combs alone in October. On Sunday, the case was updated to include Carter as a co-defendant.
The accusations stem from events that reportedly transpired more than two decades ago, but Carter has adamantly denied any involvement, issuing a strongly worded public response.
"These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!! Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree?" Carter told NBC News. "These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case."
The lawsuit claims the accuser was brought to an after-party by a limousine driver who told her she met the preferences of Combs. After arriving at the event, described as being filled with celebrities and heavy drug use, she alleges she was given a drink that left her feeling disoriented.
According to the filing, the accuser went to a room to lie down, where Carter and Combs later entered. She alleges both men raped her while another unnamed female celebrity watched. The suit states she was able to fight off additional advances and left the residence to contact her father from a nearby gas station.
Carter denounced the claims as an attempt to exploit his fame and financial status. In his statement, he called the accusations "idiotic" and criticized the accuser's legal team for pursuing what he described as a frivolous case.
"You have made a terrible error in judgement thinking that all ‘celebrities’ are the same,” Carter added. “I’m not from your world. I’m a young man who made it out of the project of Brooklyn. We don’t play these types of games. We have very strict codes and honor. We protect children.”
Combs, already embroiled in multiple lawsuits and criminal charges, also denies the allegations. His legal team dismissed the claims as "shameless publicity stunts" meant to pressure high-profile figures into settlements.
This case marks another chapter in Combs' mounting legal troubles. He is currently in custody awaiting trial on federal charges, including racketeering and sex trafficking. Prosecutors have indicated that more charges could follow in a superseding indictment.
The accuser filed the suit under New York’s Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act, seeking unspecified damages.
Meanwhile, Carter has countersued the accuser's legal team, accusing them of defamation and attempting to tarnish his reputation.
"My only heartbreak is for my family... My wife and I will have to sit our children down, one of whom is at the age where her friends will surely see the press and ask questions about the nature of these claims, and explain the cruelty and greed of people. I mourn yet another loss of innocence," Carter stated.
"Only your network of conspiracy theorists, fake physics, will believe the idiotic claims you have levied against me that, if not for the seriousness surrounding harm to kids, would be laughable," Carter added.
