Maltese politician Evarist Bartolo, a prominent member of the Labor Party and former Minister for European & Foreign Affairs, delivered a bold critique of the United States foreign policy at the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting in Davos.

Bartolo, known for his outspoken views, took the opportunity to express his concerns about the longstanding US support for the Israeli Occupation. He began his address with a metaphor, stating, "If you have an ugly face, don't blame the mirror."

According to Bartolo, the "ugly face" in this analogy is not the United Nations, but rather the position of the United States in supporting the Israeli Occupation, allowing it to act without accountability.

"The United States, for all these years, has supported Israel and let it do whatever it likes, I think even against the interests of Israel and Israelis. So, you know, it's this problem," Bartolo asserted. He went on to criticize the US policy, accusing it of turning a blind eye to actions that may not be in the best interest of the Israeli Occupation or its people.

Bartolo didn't mince words when discussing the US portrayal of itself on the global stage. "I think also what is happening now is that the United States likes to go around the world, dressed in the clothes of human rights and the rule of law and democracy. The emperor has no clothes. The emperor has no clothes," he said.

The seasoned politician drew attention to the European Union (EU) as well, pointing out the EU's perceived passivity in the face of US policies. "Interestingly, the word 'eunuch' servant starts with EU as well because, in this case, the EU has been totally a eunuch in the harm of the United States policy about this," Bartolo remarked.

He emphasized the role of the US in the ongoing Israeli Occupation aggression on Gaza, "Until the United States can stop this carnage, till the United States continues to do that, Israel knows that it can do whatever it likes. And after all, the Palestinians are nothing. They are not human. So, we're not killing humans," he asserted.

Evarist Bartolo's candid and critical perspective on the global stage adds a unique voice to the ongoing discussions about US foreign policy and its implications for the Middle East.
