Pakistani media reported Friday that the government of Pakistan has decided to resolve the crisis with Iran and restore diplomatic relations. This comes after tensions escalated due to mutual strikes against militant groups on both sides of the border.

According to sources cited by Geo TV, a security meeting, attended by interim Prime MinisterAnwaar-ul-Haq Kakar and leaders of the military and intelligence, approved the initiative to fully restore diplomatic relations with Iran.

Pakistani Information Minister Murtaza Solangi stated that the security meeting conducted a comprehensive review of national security in light of recent events.

Iran had conducted missile and drone strikes targeting sites of the “Army of Justice” group inside the Pakistani Balochistan region along the Iran-Pakistan border. In response, Pakistan carried out airstrikes on alleged positions of the Balochistan Liberation Army in the Iranian Sistan-Baluchestan province.

The strikes resulted in casualties on both sides, according to official statements.

In protest against the reciprocal airstrikes, both Islamabad and Tehran summoned their respective ambassadors from each country.
