The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has imposed a fine of USD 1500 on Jordan’s national team player, Mahmoud Mardi, for raising a pro-Palestine slogan after scoring a goal against Malaysia last Monday in the first match of the Asian Cup group stage currently being held in Qatar.

The Jordanian Football Association (JFA) received the news of the disciplinary action against Mardi, and stated that it amounts to only a financial penalty.

“The cause of the honorable,” was the slogan raised by Mardi, by lifting his shirt after scoring Jordan’s third goal and his personal second, in the 32nd minute.

Jordan dominated Malaysia and won 4-0 - securing three points in the first match of the group stage.
