In the midst of the Israeli Occupation's relentless assault on Gaza, the Orthodox Church of Saint Porphyrios stands as a beacon of hope and refuge for the besieged Gazans.

As night fell on Saturday, poignant images captured the church transformed into a sanctuary, providing solace and security in these trying times, as Christians performed prayers.

Displaced Palestinian families, their lives upended by the unrelenting aggression, sought solace within the church's hallowed walls.

Here, within the sacred confines, they found not only shelter but also a semblance of peace in the midst of chaos.

Archbishop Alexios of Tiberias, a steadfast figure of compassion and unwavering resolve, was among those captured in the photographs.

His presence has been a source of immense comfort for the beleaguered families.

In this time of crisis, he has chosen not to leave their side, contrary to rumors.

Yet, the Orthodox Church is not alone in this noble endeavor. The Latin Church Saint Joseph and Sacred Family, too, has opened its doors to provide shelter and respite for over 800 individuals in Gaza.

This refuge includes a vicar, Gabriel Romanelli, and three nuns, exemplifying the unity of purpose that transcends borders.

Among these dedicated souls, two hail from Jordan, while the third is of Egyptian origin.

Together, they stand as a testament to the universal spirit of compassion and solidarity.

In the face of adversity, these churches have become more than places of worship; they have become sanctuaries of faith and safety.

Their open doors and welcoming arms offer a glimmer of hope in these dark hours.

The resilience of the Gazan people finds a parallel in the unwavering support of these religious leaders and institutions.

In times of crisis, it is the strength of the community and the bonds of faith that often shine the brightest.

The Orthodox and Latin Churches in Gaza stand as vivid examples of this truth, embodying the spirit of unity, compassion, and resilience that will guide the Gazan people through these trying times.

-Background information-

There are approximately 1,100 Christians in the Gaza Strip.

These pictures were taken as Operation Aqsa Typhoon, launched by Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, continues for the ninth consecutive day in response to Israeli Occupation violations in the occupied Palestinian territories, which have been ongoing for decades.

In retaliation, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) has launched a campaign against the Gaza Strip, conducting a series of airstrikes in various areas.
