King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) is the first in Jordan and the second in the Middle East to receive Oncology Nursing Residency Program accreditation on March 13th, 2022.

The King Hussein Cancer Center obtained accreditation for the Oncology Nursing Residency Program with distinction from the American Center for Nursing after meeting all requirements. It is the first medical facility in Jordan and the second in the Middle East to obtain such accreditation.

Dr. Asem Mansour, Director General of the KHCC, stated that this achievement is a source of pride. He added that nursing is the cornerstone of any health institution in the world, and it is necessary to invest in nursing staff through specialization programs, pointing to the importance of specialization in all medical fields for both doctors and non-physicians such as nurses and pharmacists. This will positively impact the quality of medical care provided with high professionalism, increasing patient safety and satisfaction.

Dr. Majeda Afif, Chief Nursing Officer at KHCC, said that the accreditation program is working to develop several main objectives. The most important of these objectives is raising the expertise of newly graduated nurses who make up the majority of nurses in the labor market, and enabling them to provide safe and high-quality nursing care for cancer patients. This will be achieved by enrolling the new nurses in an intensive training program that fulfills the theoretical and practical requirements. It includes four basic stages over a period of thirty-nine weeks and ends with the completion of graduation conditions. To graduate, they must pass a comprehensive examination covering the study plan, and complete a graduation project on quality improvement, or conduct a research study, or a practice based on scientific evidence.

She added that by receiving accreditation for the Oncology Nursing Residency Program, the King Hussein Cancer Center has added an important imprint in the history of the nursing profession in our beloved country, considering that it is the first hospital in Jordan and the second overall in the Middle East to obtain this prestigious qualification.
