Saturday, a Moroccan media outlet quoted an official in the rescue teams as saying that the five-year-old child, Rayan, who fell into a well in the Chefchaouen province, is alive.

For the fifth consecutive day, the rescue teams continued to try to reach the child Rayan. The rescue efforts were delayed at dawn on Saturday due to the nature of the soil in the area, which is a mix of unstable sand and rock.

According to the latest updates, only two meters separate the rescue teams from the child.

"Rescuers are in danger of fainting due to the lack of oxygen inside the hole, which is located at a depth of more than 30 meters," the media outlet said.

Last week, the five-year-old Rayan fell into a 62-meter well, in the village of Agran in the Chefchaouen province, in northern Morocco.

The difficulty of the rescue operation comes due to the narrowness of the well.

"The child's rescue is approaching," government spokesman Mustapha Baitas said Thursday. "Our hearts are with the family, and we are praying that he will back with them as soon as possible."

The shaft was too narrow for rescuers to reach the bottom, so heavy diggers were dispatched to dig a hole alongside it.

They confirmed earlier that Rayan got stuck at a depth of 35 meters in the well.

They lastly noted that he had suffered minor injuries to the head.

Rescue operations are still ongoing.
