In the US, some plastic surgery clinics are reporting that their business has doubled in the pandemic.

According to experts, there are a myriad of reasons for the surge in desire for plastic surgery.

For starters, Zoom meetings have people looking at themselves now more than ever.

"It's something new when you have to stare at your face for a couple of hours a day and there's only so much you can do with good lighting and good angles," one plastic surgery patient told France24.

Zoom meeting- and all pandemic related stress- have also generated another reason to go under the knife: frown lines.

"Our patients have more frown lines, because they've been so stressed for the last year," said Dr. Catherine Hannan of Washington, DC.

But for others, the pandemic hasn't supplied reason for the surgery, but instead an excuse to finally do it.

With more time spent at home, some say the pandemic is a perfect time for surgery as it allows them enough time to recuperate, which ordinarily would have cost a year of vacation days.

"I didn't have to take off all this time, because I still was able to work from my bed with my laptop," said 25-year-old patient Ana Caceres.

For others, it's just one thing they can do, among the many they can't.

"This is a way that patients are saying, 'I can't travel, I can't see my family, this is something I can do to make myself feel more confident right now," said Dr. Hannan.
