Adaileh: Legal measures against those flouting self-quarantine instructions

Legal measures, including imposing a fine or imprisonment, will be taken against whoever proves to be infected with coronavirus and doesn't abide by the medical measures determined by the Ministry of Health, including isolation measures, the Minister of State for Media Affairs, Amjad Adaileh confirmed during a press conference held today, jointly with the Minister of Health, Saad Jaber.

Adaileh explained that this threatens the health of citizens and puts their safety at risk.

In addition, whoever is suspected of being infected and doesn't commit to home-quarantine will expose himself/herself to legal accountability, including a fine or imprisonment, the Minister stressed.

"The policy of self-quarantine at home may not work for some people, so new areas for quarantine will be announced later," he said adding that for those who would like to be quarantined at hotels, this would be at their own expense.

"We warn against going into the details of the private life of the infected or suspected cases and we call on all those who have information about a possible case to contact the Ministry of Health or the toll-free number (193) instead of publishing this on social media platforms so that we help epidemiological investigation teams to reach the cases and conduct the tests," Adaileh stated.

"We said before that this disease is not a shame, being suspected of having it is not a shame and putting some people in quarantine is not a shame either; rather, the shame is hiding that and endangering the health and safety of citizens," he confirmed.
