A pregnant coronavirus patient underwent a successful caesarian operation in the early hours of the morning today, the first of its kind in the Arab World and possibly the 3rd worldwide.

The patient, the sister in law of the Irbid groom, had been infected at the wedding and was at her ninth month of pregnancy, Al Rai' newspaper reported.

She had been hospitalized at Prince Hashem Military Hospital in quarantine and had to be transferred to the Founding King hospital where Obstetrician Layla Ali Zaghal was summoned to operate.

"The caesarian operation was conducted after taking all precautions, with the presence of all specialized teams including anesthesia, internal, pediatrics and transferable disease specialists," said Dr. Zaghal, adding: "the mother and child are in good health and under quarantine. The baby was named Joman."
