Jordan has affirmed today that the two-state solution that meets the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people, especially its right to freedom and the state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, to live in security and peace alongside Israel in accordance with the approved references and international legitimacy resolutions is the only way to achieve a comprehensive and lasting peace.

In a statement issued after the US President Donald Trump announced the peace plan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi said that the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has firm principles and positions regarding the Palestinian cause and the Jordanian higher national interests govern the government’s handling of all initiatives and proposals aimed at solving it.

He added that the Palestinian cause was and will remain the foremost Arab issue, and that Jordan will coordinate with the Palestinians and other Arab countries to deal with the next stage within the framework of the Arab consensus, pointing to the importance of the emergency meeting of the Arab League Council that will join foreign ministers next Saturday.

Safadi warned of the dangerous consequences of any Israeli unilateral measures aimed at imposing new facts on the ground, such as lands annexation, expansion of settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, and violation of sanctities in Jerusalem, stressing on Jordan's condemnation of these measures that violate the international law and such provocative actions pushing the region towards more tension and escalation.

The Foreign Minister stressed that, under directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, the guardian of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, the Kingdom will continue to devote all its capabilities to protect Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian sanctities, preserve the existing historical and legal status and protect its Arab Islamic and Christian identity.

Safadi said that a just and lasting peace that meets all the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people is a Jordanian-Palestinian-Arab strategic choice, and that Jordan will continue to work with the international community to achieve it on the foundations that guarantee its fairness, permanence and acceptance by people.

He added that Jordan supports every real effort aimed at achieving a just and comprehensive peace that the people accept, and stresses the need to launch serious and direct negotiations that address all final status issues, within the framework of a comprehensive solution that is necessary for the stability and security of the region, according to the approved references, the Arab peace initiative and international legitimacy resolutions.

Safadi confirmed the kingdom wants real, just, comprehensive and true peace on the basis of a two-state solution that ends the Israeli occupation and preserves the rights of the Palestinian people, guarantees the security of all parties, and protects Jordan's interests, including those related to final status issues.
