Minister of Labour, Nidal Bataineh, complained about the labour market in Jordan, considering that it exports skilled workers and imports unskilled workers.

During a dialogue discussion held at the Jordanian Economic Forum in the Dead Sea on Wednesday, September 4, 2019, Bataineh discussed a number of issues concerning the labour market, most notably the high rate of unemployment and the large number of expatriate workers.

Bataineh said that Jordanians prefer to work in the public sector due to the lack of job security and stability in the private sector, as this sector requires government legislation to become stable.

Bataineh revealed the government’s plan to establish the National Council for Employment that will be headed by him, Minister of Education and Higher Education as well as a number of government agencies to link education outputs with the demand of the labour market.
