A number of owners of domestic workers recruitment agencies staged a sit-in on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, in front of the Ministry of Labor building in protest against the Minister of Interior's decision to stop granting visas to domestic workers who come from Uganda.

Protestors expressed anger over the losses they suffered following the decision which were estimated at over than JD 500,000.

During the protest, protestors also demanded both the Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Interior to go back of the decision, that was taken with owners being provided with any explanations.

President of the domestic workers recruitment agencies, Ahmad Faouri, said that the Labor Ministry and Interior Ministry took the decision based on incorrect information released by officials at the ministries, adding that the owners of domestic workers agencies will continue protesting until their demands are met.

However, Ugandan domestic workers cost the Jordanian citizens less than domestic workers of other nationalities.
